New Standards Technical Collateral release for the Next Generation Standard for UK Retail Payments

We have now published our third ‘collection’ of standards collateral, following on from our previous publications in July and December 2021. This new collection builds on its predecessors and provides new message set information to support the latest New Payments Architecture (NPA) use cases.

The collateral can be found on our customer portal, Standards Source, and we welcome any feedback and comments via: standards@wearepay.uk.

The new standard allows for significantly enhanced data exchange, as well as, richer information through increased quality and quantity of data. This will lead to substantial opportunities for innovation in the payments ecosystem and beyond – benefitting banks and financial institutions, businesses and personal customers.

The collateral remains in draft form and is not for implementation at this stage. However, it enables our customers and organisations, where appropriate, to perform any necessary business impact assessments to work with the new standard and the ISO 20022 message sets to be used by the NPA.

The collection will include the following:

  • The latest Base document
  • New information relating to ISO 20022 camt message sets
  • How to use the file header and NPA ‘wrapper’
  • The latest Message Sequence Diagrams
  • The use of extended character sets
  • Part 1 relating to ‘Head Office Collection Accounts’
  • Schemas and examples in XSD form

We expect to publish a fourth collection in H2 2022 that will include aspects of design for fraud prevention data, references to the standard’s versioning and change (release) control, examples of the relevant NPA messages and the introduction of APIs.

For relevant organisations with existing access, the collection is available for download through our customer portal, Standards Source.

For those requiring new access to the portal, or for any feedback, please contact us at standards@wearepay.uk.
